Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced New York, New Jersey and Connecticut are taking joint regional action to reduce the spread of COVID-19 on Monday, March 16.
Beginning at 8 p.m. on March 16, crowd capacity will be reduced to 50 people, restaurants and bars must transition to take out and/or delivery only and gyms, movie theaters and casinos must close.
Due to this, many Brockport area shops have temporarily changed their business models.
Jimmy Z’s Plates and Shakes announced Monday on Twitter it will close its operations until further notice.
“Due to the COVID-19 virus, we have decided to follow state and government suggestions to temporarily close till further notice,” Jimmy Z’s wrote. “Safety and health first.”
58 Main BBQ & Brew also announced changes on Monday at noon on Facebook, with it deciding to move to takeout orders only.
“The restaurant & bar is open until 8 p.m. tonight,” 58 Main wrote. “Starting tomorrow at 11 a.m.: hours 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.”
58 Main will only have curbside pickup available, which will include all menu and catering options. DoorDash and GrubHub will also still be available.
“We truly appreciate your support and we will continue to update you as we receive more information,” the post said.
The Red Bird Cafe and Gift Shop has also closed due to the new mandates.
“The Red Bird Cafe and Gift Shop will be closed until further notice,” its Facebook post read. “We want to protect our staff and customers and hope this interruption will not last long. We will not be delivering or serving takeout. Stay safe! Jo, Sara and Nancy.”
Coleen’s Kitchen will close its dining hall.
“Starting tomorrow I’ll be doing takeout only,” Coleen’s Facebook post read. “You all know it’s just me so delivery will not be an option. Stay safe.”
Piccolo Fazools Bistro will still be offering takeout and delivery.
“As mandated by the governor, we have to shut down our dining room, but we will be offering curbside pickup and delivery within 5 miles,” Fazools announced on Facebook. “It’s so important to us to keep our staff and customers safe. We will be offering the family style meals along with our regular menu, and to reduce contact we will be taking payments over the phone. We will still offer DoorDash and GrubHub services. Thank you for all your support during this terrible time, so please support your restaurants and local businesses. We need it now more than ever! Hours: Tuesday and Wednesday 4-8 p.m., Thursday-Sunday 11 a.m. – 8 p.m.”
Fazools will also offer alcohol with takeout orders.
“In addition to our curbside and delivery for food, we are now allowed to sell beer and wine with your meals we will only be selling bottled beer and bottles of wine!” Fazools shared.
Custom House Bar and Grill released a statement Monday, saying it will stay open until 8 p.m. and begin pick up orders Tuesday from noon to 8 p.m.
“We are also discussing the option for a free delivery service of food and alcohol, more details to follow,” the Facebook post read. “We appreciate your patience and continued support while we figure out how to move forward. We will also be providing curbside pickup!”
The Rooster Pub and Pizza will stay open until 8 p.m. Monday and will offer take out until 10 p.m., according to its Facebook post.
“Starting Tuesday 3/17, takeout only from 3-10 p.m.,” the post read. “We also offer DoorDash and GrubHub delivery. Thank you for your support. Stay safe.”
SEA Restaurant announced both its Brockport and Monroe Avenue storefronts will close temporarily.
“During this time of unpredictability, we have made the decision to temporarily close down our Brockport and Monroe Avenue locations until further notice,” a Facebook post read. “Our Mount Hope Avenue location dining area will also be temporarily closed, but this location will still be providing take out and now delivery services. Delivery is a $15 minimum, no delivery fee, and within 7 miles of our location. We are hoping that by temporarily closing/moving to take-out or delivery will keep our locations clean and prevent the COVID-19 virus from spreading any further in the community. Please stay safe, and stay compassionate during this time. We have always appreciated your love and support as a small business, and we will continue to appreciate it through these uncertain times. Thank you for understanding, Pho-Natics. We hope to see you all again real soon.”
USA Brockport Diner announced it will close its dining room and limit hours.
“We will be staying open during this NYS mandate of closing, and allow take out,” it said in a Facebook post. “Our hours will be a little different during this time. Monday-Friday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday-Sunday TBD (will update this). To try and limit time in the diner, your food will be waiting for you by the register. Thank you for your loyalty!”
Brockport Strand Theater will also be closed, per Cuomo’s request.
“We are now closed indefinitely per Governor Cuomo’s latest news conference,” its Facebook post read. “We have provided movies to the Brockport community for the past 25 years and we plan on continuing to provide movie entertainment once this crisis is behind us. Thank you for your continued support. We wish you all to be safe and help each other out as much as you can during this time. We will update when we will reopen when the time comes. The show will go on. Thank you for choosing the Brockport Strand Theater.”
Brockport has also closed the Special Events Recreation Center (SERC) per the governor’s mandates.
“New York State Gov. Cuomo announced earlier this morning a number of steps that are being taken to limit the spread of the coronavirus,” Vice President for University Relations Dave Mihalyov said in an email to students. “One of these steps is to close all gym facilities at 8 p.m. tonight for the foreseeable future. For the college, this means that the SERC Fitness Center will no longer be available for use after 8 pm tonight. We will provide further updates if the situation changes.”
